About UsNonviolenceWorks is a nonprofit organization located in South Shore at 7351 S. Coles Ave. The focus of this organization is violence prevention in our homes, neighborhoods, and wider community. NonviolenceWorks offers education and training in character development and nonviolence. The organization was formed in July, 2016 by Phillip Bradley, the principal trainer and violence prevention specialist, Elfriede Wedam, a faculty member at Loyola University Chicago and Larry Campbell, chair of the Parish Pastoral Council of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Our Team
Phillip Bradley - presidentHaving devoted his life's work to the study and practice of nonviolence, Phillip is well-known in many Chicago communities for his perseverance and presence. As a community organizer and violence prevention specialist, Phillip has offered education and training in character development and nonviolence in schools, churches, and juvenile detention facilities.

Elfriede Wedam - vice president (on leave)Elfriede teaches sociology at Loyola University Chicago specializing in sociology of religion, communities, the life course, and violence, and co-authored Religion and Community in the New Urban America. She is currently on academic leave from NW to work on her next book project, Religious Congregations and their Anti-Violence Programs. In between times, she actively consults with NonviolenceWorks.

Larry Campbell - treasurerLarry is the chair of the Pastoral Council of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in West Pullman and a recipient of the Bishop Quarter Volunteer Award for his extensive work in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Now retired, Larry’s business career in Human Resources spanned for-profit and nonprofit companies. Larry has been dedicated to the pursuit of peace through the practice of his Catholic faith all his life.
